The Issues

Separation and divorce is a difficult time for everyone involved. It affects not just husband, wife or civil partner, but also the children and other members of the family.

To help you manage the process you need clear understandable advice from an experienced solicitor.

You will want to know about many issues which will affect you and your family's future.

CHILDREN

  • who should they live with ?
  • when should they see the other parent ?
  • how should we resolve disagreements over the children ?

HOUSE

  • where are each of us and the children going to live ?
  • will the house have to be sold ?
  • can I stay in the house ?
  • how much will I have to pay my partner if I stay ?
  • will my partner have to pay anything to me ?

PENSIONS

  • I have no pension but my partner has been paying into a pension for years. Am I entitled to part of that pension?
  • I'm not bothered about the pension but I would like a larger share of the house now. Is that possible?

WHAT ABOUT

  • my business ?
  • debts ?
  • savings ?
  • other assets ?
  • wills ?

DIVORCE

  • is it best to go ahead now or to wait ?
  • have I got grounds for divorce ?
  • how do I go about it ?
  • how long will it take ?

COST

It can be an expensive business but we will discuss with you how much it will cost and will advise you how to keep the cost to a minimum. We encourage you to pay towards our fees as you go through the process so that you keep the amount you have to pay at the end to as low a figure as possible.

For the majority of our clients we are able to offer a fixed fee of £900 (inclusive of VAT and £340 court fees) for the actual divorce proceedings.

Solicitor Alyson Howland in our Family Department at Massers will advise you on long term options relating to:

  • DIVORCE
  • DISSOLUTION
  • CHILDREN
  • FINANCE
