Massers, the Nottingham solicitors, has advised on a management buyout at a West Midlands precision engineering company.

Jeff Alvey, Commercial Partner, and Vik Moothia, Associate, advised on the transfer of ownership from one of the joint owners at Smethwick based A&M EDM Ltd.  West Bridgford accountant Andrew Chapple of Collins Chapple also advised on the deal.  The size of deal is undisclosed.

The £1.75 million turnover business was established in 2002 by Arthur Watts and Mark Wingfield, who has bought out the farmer's stake in the company.  Arthur Watts will continue to work for the company, which employs 16 people.

Heavy investment in the latest engineering technology has contributed to the company's growth.  It has built up a customer base in the UK and Europe in industry sectors such as aerospace, automotive, electronics and medical engineering.

Mark Wingfield said:  "Plans for the company focus on sustainable growth and developing our presence in the aerospace sector.  Further diversification of our customer base is another medium term goal so that A&M can continue to grow and develop as a reputable, dependable and economical option for all forms of engineering work."

He added: "The personal service that we received from Massers more than compensated for the physical distance between us."

Jeff Alvey said:  "The deal creates a vehicle for Mark to take the company forward and build on the commercial success of the business which both original owners started from scratch."

"It also highlights that the commercial reach of Nottingham's legal firms extends beyond the East Midlands."

"Massers remain committed to the work that we do with small and medium enterprises, which make a significant contribution to the economy" he added.
